OK, this is not a radio I have even seen yet. But my buddy has says it is going. I am about 12 air miles from him, and it just went out on him. The weird thing is it went out on me only. He can still hear all the other locals within 1 air mile of him. It's just the distant locals that have crapped out. I am assuming this radio is heading for my bench. Any ideas?
BTW, his audio is simply superb on this radio. These are the best sounding radios.

BTW, his audio is simply superb on this radio. These are the best sounding radios. I've worked on about 8 D201's in the last year. Every one of them had issues, none of which were exactly the same. About the only thing I can say is that they were all a result of age related part failures. Just about any D201 out there that saw regular service will have resistors which have changed value and caps that are ready to give up the ghost as well. And of course we can't forget about the tubes. D201's are "high maintenance" radios. They pretty much will require the "100,000 mile" overhaul. You can shotgun all the "likely-to-fail" parts and be done with it, or you can just replace the ones that test bad now. But if some parts are starting to fail, the rest aren't far behind. It's up to you how you (and your budget) want to do it......
