Seems like many people are dumping their equipment. Or the junk they have laying around for spare parts. Most likely because of the terrible economy we are in. And putting quite a bit of effort to pass it off as some kind of rare item or limited edition. Or better condition than it actually is! Crappy pictures and cropping them just to name a few slick underhanded methods. I just saw a browning 776 pray painted gold. Listed as rare! It's only rare because maybe he ran out of paint or mic's. Another browning looks like the guy used Armor-all on the cases. Looked greasy! I have used a similar product lightly on my cases. But definitely NOT ON THE FACES. looks like he took it in for a oil change. And the filter is leaking. Buyer beware!

How true, 3 different people in this area bought Brownings radios off ebay that were DOA or close to it. But the sellers stated other wise. It seems as you said the problem has gotten worse. And I can not believe what some of this equipment that may or may not work is being listed for. It is a sign of the times. Poor economy and all. It sure is sad to see some of this junk that is being sold as great or good condition and working. But I don't have a mic or antenna. To bad these buyers don't check out this site before they buy. But even then, some will still get stuck with a smoked eagle. Oh well.

I would consider myself as one of the lucky ones because I too purchased my Browning Mark III on ebay. I took a chance since the seller had a 100% feedback rating and got the radio with the 776 mic and pal vfo plus for under $325.00 shipped to my home. Seller also included receipts for work that was performed within the past 10 yrs. The cabinets, faces, and chassis inside are very very nice (cosmetics). I went and checked all the tubes and took it to my tech (Wayne at Larrys CB) for an alignment and complete checkup and tuneup before using it. No, I didnt have the 100,000 mile redo done to it, but it works great and I do use it at least once a week now. I realize that in the future more problems will probably arise and need to be addressed, but this is to be expected of all our older tube rigs. Sure glad I lucked into a good one. Sniper

I won't buy a classic unless I see it in person. Too many near mint and mint radios that was really good/used, or very good.
I did strike a deal with a friend. He offered me a GE Superbase at no cost, if I tune-align-repair his radios. He is a friend of mine so I am not worried about problems. He knows he has to pay for parts, though.
It's funny, but most of the radio repair questions I have have been from 1 person's collection. I only repair 3 or 4 people's radios, and only because they have given me stuff or have done favors for me, like roof repair, furniture moving, antenna raising, etc. I refuse other people radios. Luckily, that one person is allowing me to sell some of his lower value radios on ebay, so I can keep the money for a parts fund. Kind of recycling. I have a Browning LTD on there now. Money going towards parts for his Tram that is on my bench.

Sniper,
I to am lucky. I paid a bit over $100.00 for my 1st mk III on ebay. But I knew the transmitter had problems. Had to send it to Barket for repair. But in the end it was worth the repair bill. ;D

He states browning MarkIII in the listing. But then in his description "these are really nice radios" Sure would ask before bidding.

In one photo, I see the newer version Mark III, & in another pic, I see the receiver has the older blonde speaker, 500.00 for both radios + a vfo, isn't a bad deal.

I just bought a mark 111 off e-bay, it sounded pinchy and no base, nobody wanted to talk to me, the seller sent me a golden eagle mic that did not work, the funny thing was the mic was not included in the sale. took the bottom off the radio and discovered the ground wire to the mic plug was off. going to try a different mic head off a mic that I know is good and if that don't work the seller with a 100% feedback is going to get a real bad feedback from me.
