Would someone like to compare the difference in transmit/ receive audio quality between the Browning Mark III and R-27 S-23?

Folks may debate the pros and cons of how the 1965 radio compares to the 1970 through 1977 radio. And opinions will vary.
But there is one difference that's not up for debate.
Age. The older the radio, the bigger headache (spelled 'expense') it will be to keep it on the air. A low-mileage R27/S23 may perform better than a 1974 Mark III with 200,000 miles on it. But only until the miles accumulate. Parts will begin to 'remember' how old they are and begin to fail from age.
The older the radio, the more age-related failures you'll see.
And low mileage is always to your advantage, regardless of age.

Hey, thanks. I didn't think of that. I know there will be a lot of personal opinions as to which is "Better", but I'm thinking there have to be internal changes in actual hardware between the two. I hope there wasn't a major change inside the radio that would have made a profound difference in audio send/ receive quality???. This will be my first Browning, and I appreciate everyone's opinions.

The Mark III is better. I have heard the IF transformers in the R27 S23 go bad with age due to the design. Also they are more narrow banded than a Mark III. The best performers in my book are the IV/IVA's (IV if the PLL is upgraded).
