I'm getting ready to put up a 5/8 ground plane, I've read that a 5/8 gp needs an rf choke made out of 6 to 8 turns of coax 8 in. in diam. at the feed point of the antenna. is this something that has to be done? any help will be appreciated

If you are putting up an "old school" ground plane with radials, the balun should not be necessary.
