Hi All,
I have a 23-channel SBE Formula D AM mobile that's digitally synthesized from the olden days ('78 or so) with a frequency mod and I'm kind of surprised that CB Tricks doesn't show this mod, as it was all the rage in my locality back when. I have acquired an additional, unmodified example made some time later, based on its serial number and would like to learn all of the steps involved in completing the mod. What I have on hand is basically, "Compare the two pictures and circle the 19 differences," like the puzzles we used to see as kids. Anyone got the recipe? This radio had/has the option of shifting the frequency up or down by a given amount, and I''d like to know the recipe for each if anyone has it, thanks! The Service Manual is on CB Tricks and is great for REAL technicians, but I'm just starting out and using this radio as a Guinea Pig to get my feet wet. I'm into Brownings but this radio cost $20 and is a better place to start.

I see by looking at the schematics quickly in CB Tricks that they use the 10.240 Mhz crystal reference signal. Technically you could inject your own new signal in using an external oscillator to create whatever frequency you're looking for. Dunno if it's worth the time and effort, though.

Naw, the jumpering/resistor thing will work most elegantly and cheaply but I'm just trying to find out if I'm missing anything, since I have one radio that WORKS AWESOME and am trying to clone it on another unsuspecting victim but on the uppers if I can. I know that these radios could shift up a certain interval and down quite a bit. I have the downer and want to try to make this one into an "upper". Thanks Mr. Brown!
