Ok guys, I need your help!!!
I want to get a new TV for our family room but I can't make up my mind if I want a Plasma or LCD HDTV. My son has a 52"Samsung Plasma and I really like it, but I'm concerned about burn marks on the screen and they use more electric then the LCD ones do. My in-laws have a LG 42" LCD and I really like that as well, but I'm not sure if the picture quality is as good as the Plasma.
I want to get between a 42 to 52" screen, nothing smaller for the family room. The ones I have looked in to so far are .... LG, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic.
Do any of you have a HDTV, and if so what do you have? Pros, cons???
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Thanks I just got a 47" LG LCD and it looks nice. From what I've heard, the LCD is getting the nod over the Plasma due to the issues you've noted and the scuttlebutt that the plasma display supposedly doesn't last all that long. We had a couple of plasmas where I work and we wrecked the displays by leaving it parked on a text display overnight. The LCD screens don't seem to have this problem. But you're right, the colors on the plasma seem more vivid. But the LCD's are getting better. I can also sit at a 45 degree angle from the center of the screen and not have the picture fade out or look like a negative the way some screens do.

I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. I got a new LCD TV last January. If I did not purchase this product www.tv-armor.com/, the TV would have been toast in the first 3 days. This is the best $150 investment I ever made.

Heck! I forgot about the interference issues with some Plasmas TV's. One of my locals gets a high noise level whenever the big screen is fired up. More noise pollution on the radio bands. Ugh!

I have a Panasonic 58" TH-58PZ850U plasma TV that causes no interference at all on any of my radio equipment. I do have Tripp Lite Isobar surge suppressors on all my electronics, though.
The main appeal of the Isobar for me is that each bank (pair) of outlets in the box has successively more EMI filtering to provide RF isolation among the connected equipment, as well as from the outside world. I started using the Isobar 8 outlet strip in my shack when I had an errant power supply that was putting noise into my receive.
