The Cobra 2000 Radio recieves and transmits fine, but the frequency counter only works on AM. When you change to upper or lower sideband it goes out and only the clock shows. The radio has been sitting in a box for a long time with little use. It looks great. Anybody ever heard of this problem before? Thanks for your advice Whitedove

Sounds like a problem with the mode-selector switch. One section of the LSB/AM/USB switch feeds to the counter. A radio that was left on AM for too long will permit the oxide to build up on the SSB contact surfaces inside the switch.
Cleaning that switch would be the cheapest thing to try first.
