And for many of us on the East Coast that dream just might come true, in two parts!
There will be a storm that hits late Friday in to Sunday. You folks in Delaware and New Jersey might be adding it up in feet, not inches In my area they are calling for 6 to 10 inches as of now.
Lancaster County Winter Storm Watch: Issued at: 10:08 PM EST 12/17/09, expires at: 12:00 PM EST 12/18/09
Winter storm watch in effect from late Friday night through sunday morning, The NWS in state college has issued a winter storm watch, which is in effect from late Friday night through sunday morning. Low pressure developing to the southwest of new orleans will gradually strengthen as it moves northeast and becomes located east of the delmarva coast on Saturday. This low will team up with a potent upper level disturbance moving east across the central appalachians to spread snow northward into the southern tier of Pennsylvania during the predawn hours of Saturday. The snow may fall heavy at times Saturday into Saturday night. The potential exists for a 6 to 10 inch snowfall across southern pennsylvania and the lower susquehanna valley. This includes the cities of harrisburg, lebanon, lancaster, york, chambersburg and somerset. Precautionary/preparedness actions, A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Stay tuned to noaa weather radio or your favorite source of weather information for the latest updates. Additional details can also be found at, weather.gov/statecollege.
And that's not all We could be looking at a second storm hitting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day which could bring up to a foot of the white stuff
It's going to be a cold and white winter guys

Global Warming, don't get me started (hahaha)
The totals are really starting to build for this storm. Now they are calling for at least a foot here, and 1 to 2 feet near Philly and the Jersey Shore

Grumpy and Sandbagger, I sure hope we get at least a ground covering here in the Pittsburgh area! My grandson would love it and I can't wait to get him out on my old sled from when I was a kid. They are not saying around here what we could expect for accumulation except that we will have snow showers amounting from just a dusting to perhaps 1-2" in our area by Sunday this week. I think it may be a bit tougher to get a good idea with us being so close to the Laurel mountains as to what we will actually get. Anyways, just wanted to chime in. Scott,Sandbagger and to all the Forum Members, I just would like to take this time to say.....Merry Christmas to You all and God Bless !! Sniper (Jim)

I'm not in the direct center of the shotgun blast coming, but then they really aren't telling us too much about actual snow amounts either. Last amount they mentioned was 10-12".
Just be careful if you do travel.

We started to get light snow here around 1am. It has really picked up here around 4:14am. Wnd gusts are 20mph, temp at 23 degress.
Issued at: 4:30 AM EST 12/19/09, expires at: 4:30 PM EST 12/19/09 Winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 am est Sunday. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 am est Sunday. Snow will continue today, heavy at times. In addition, as winds become gutsy later today, considerable blowing and drifting may occur causing visibilities near zero in some areas. The snow will continue through the day before tapering off early Sunday morning. Snowfall totals of 10 to 12 inches are likely by late saturday night, with higher amounts as high as 2 feet possible over far eastern areas of lancaster county. The heaviest snow will fall from mid morning through Saturday evening, with 1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates possible at times. Blowing and drifting snow will cause extremely hazardous travel conditions and make it difficult for plows to keep roads clear. Precautionary/preparedness actions, A winter storm warning for heavy snow means a significant amount of snow is forecast that will make travel dangerous. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, blanket and a cellular phone in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Stay tuned to noaa weather radio or your favorite source of weather information for the latest updates. Additional details can also be found at, weather.gov/statecollege.

It started here somewhere around daybreak, and in the 6 or 7 hours it's been snowing, we've only gotten about 2" so far. It now looks like the snow is tapering off. So if this storm is going to dump on us, it better get started soon. I have a feeling this is going to be another of those major exaggerations.......

We have close to a foot so far where I live, and it's snowing heavy. My son lives in Gap and he has close to 14 inches there. Quarryville in the Southern End of the County has about 17 inches so far. At the rate we are going we will easily hit close to a foot and a half!
We just had the first snow plow come past our place about 15 minutes ago. The wind is whipping gusts about 26mph.
Life isn't good in Lancaster County!

I was thinking of you Bob, as the forecasts show the swath of the heaviest snow going right through your area. Since my last post, the snow has picked up in intensity again. I now have about 4" on the ground. It's the strangest thing how I'm further east than Grumpy, but getting less snow. I've been looking at the traffic cams around the area, and above Allentown the roads were dry and nothing was falling in the Poconos.

I just let my dogs out back so they could play in the snow. When they stepped out I could no longer see their legs, the snow was half way up their body. I have three Labs, they're not small dogs!
It's still snowing here. All the shopping malls have closed, some of them at 3pm, some at 5pm. Now you know this is supposed to be the busiest shopping day of the year. For them to close early you know it is bad. I am listening to the plow drivers on the scanner, they can't keep up at all with the snow!

Closing a shopping mall the Saturday before Christmas is how I felt last Summer when it rains all day on a Saturday. ..It hurts financially!
It looks like we got over 12" so far. I hear a lot of static crashes on my Browning MK. III. Must be "thunder-snow."

A local weather man said we could have thunder snow before this pulls out. Still snowing pretty hard here, the wind has settled down a little but it's supposed to get real windy here overnight and tomorrow. We have only seen one plow truck here all day, and the roads are getting really bad!

It's almost over here ;D
This morning our 2 cars were all cleaned off, we had about 6 inches at that time. When I took these pictures we had another 15 inches on top of the 6. I say we will end up with a little over 23 inches total. And just to think it's not even winter yet
Your PT is all covered, how much did you get Bob?

Your PT is all covered, how much did you get Bob? Wow! That is some snowfall. I can't believe that both of you guys got so much more than I did. As of this posting, the snow is starting to taper off, and my tape measure says 7" on the back deck. Tomorrow begins the big dig out. Then comes sledding with my daughter. At least this is a light dry snow. Won't be hard to blow/shovel.

The prediction was for 18-24"+. I've been staying inside. It looks like more than 2ft. to me. The storm is winding down now.

Yeah Bob we both got one heck of a storm!
We have snow piles stacked 5'6" high. The roads are still a mess around here, only seen 2 snow plows all yesterday and today I'm not looking for the next storm later in the week, they are calling for snow and ice. Just in time for Christmas Day

We wound up with about 11-12", just like they predicted. But with the drifts from the winds, there were piles over 2 foot deep.
I was plowing the driveway yesterday, and damn it was cold with the wind still blowing.
They are saying this next one may be a rain/snow event. One thing for sure, it'll screw up traveling during Christmas.
