I got a sirio 827 and a sirio sy 27-4 4 element beam antenna. ( very happey with the antennas ) So for the first question can you put a ground plate above a vertical beam antenna with a space of 3" to 5" or so? The second question might sound little dumb but is silver plating worth it on a base antenna. I see that the Wilson 5000 coils has silver plate on them and help them tx and rx very good. I have found silver plating kits that electroplate silver on metal, so is it worth it?

If your beam was horizontal you could put your groundplane above it, but even then I would try to stay at least 9' above it to the ground radials. Since your beam is a vertical, it should not be done! As far as the siver plating goes, I would not waste the time or expense involved. Most metals that get plated need to be etched with some type of acid so the plating will not peel so easy, and the kits that they sell are really just for small projects. I really don't see the need for a plated antenna. Avanti had what they called the Golden Penetrator years ago, it was anodised to help aid in the reduction of natural corrosion over time. Just my opinion, but not worth the time, expense, or effort to try to plate it. Sniper

I agree with Sniper; it isn't worth the time, effort and money to plate the antenna.
I also agree, I wouldn't mount an omni above a vertical antenna either.

A horizontal beam, you could do it with no problem.
