I inherited a bunch of CB stuff from my late uncles estate. I ended up with a President Madison, mav 250, Magnum 125 amp, robyn 505D, Cobra 140GTL, Lafayette HE 15, and a bunch of coax, antennas, rotators, power supplies, meters, and ect ect and thats not all that i have gotten yet!!! The 2510 and the Madison are mainly what i wanted, but in order to get them i had to take all the other other stuff. I used to own a 2510, but never liked the goofy looking LCD "bar" S meter. I found a mod on Roderbirds website that you can hook an external S meter to the rig by hooking it to C 302 on the processor board. were in earth if C 302 located???

I can't wait to see it! What kind of condition is the HE-15 in? You are one lucky guy, zman.

The HE 15 is in exc cond and works. I just need some extra crystals to get it on ch 1 20 and 16 since they are the local AM chat channels. The Cobra 140 still has me stumped though.

C302 is on the microprocessor board. Looking at it from the front of the radio, it's an electrolytic cap on the front left side. You don't need to pull from there though. Right behind the LCD display(top side of the radio) there is a header plug assembly with something like 8 or a dozen wires going into it. The brown wire can be cut and you can pull your s meter + voltage from there. To confirm you have the correct wire, use a volt meter with + lead going to the brown wire where it fits into the header plug, and the other end to circuit board ground. If you hear a station, your should see varying dc voltage. You may want to put an electrolytic capacitor across the meter to damp erratic meter movement. Around 100uf is a good starting value. Make sure the negative lead goes to the negative side of the meter movement. This mod is such an improvement to a radio which was well ahead of it's time. The other thing the mod does is eliminate any tendency for the phantom S meter reading to occur.
