I think that radio's 'history' is dubious at best.

I agree 100% on that! I have been on Ebay since 1997 and have watched all these sellers come and go. This guy knows how to put a ridiculous spin on things. I am not saying the radio is not nice, I am saying that unless he has some way of proving his claims, it is a 100% fabricated lie. This guy is not too far removed from the tactics that Radio-Mart uses...

When you mention Radio Mart...boy does that leave a bad taste in my mouth!! I picked up an FT-102 last year off of them and it was supposedly all checked, transmit and receive were to be perfect. Soooooo far from the truth!! The rig arrived with absolutely no receive or transmit, and when I emailed them, they had told me it was working fine when it left their place of business. I took the rig to my tech and when he had opened it up, he found a plug un-plugged. Well he plugged it back in...and it took quite a bit of pressure to push it in (so it WAS NEVER plugged in before leaving their shop). Well, it still didn't work...tubes were all junk, so we replaced them and it's still a mess at this time. It has been in the shop for a year now come April. It worked on receive sporadically but went out again. All relays have been changed plus so many other parts. Now my tech thinks it may need one of the ssb filters replaced. Heck, by the time it's all said and done, I will have more wrapped up into the 102 than I do in my 1000D. So for me....Radio Mart is NOT the place to buy a darn thing!!! As far as that Mark III goes at the starting price of $1999.00...I wouldn't buy that for that price if it were gold plated. Just my 2 cents worth.... Sniper

Something doesn't smell right. The claim was that this was the first ("Original 1") radio of of the line. Yet the receiver is clearly the "updated" version with the extended receiver tuning. The first versions had only the CB band and 2 Xtal positions. I will say the radio does look clean, but you can also see where some caps have been tacked into place underneath. Certainly not worth $2000.

That Radio-Mart guy is a known rip off artist in the radio (ham) community. I cannot believe he still exisits. PT Barnum was right! Do a search on radio mart(y) on qrz.com and make sure you have lots of popcorn.

Just proves the old adage: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Yes indeed... Martyn Allison of "Radio Mart" is famous for stretching the truth. I bought from him WAY back when he first got on ebay (less than 100 sales), and I too was ripped off. He has been thrown off ebay twice as I recall but gets back on there somehow. I wouldn't get ANYTHING from him even if he offered to GIVE it to me free! He knows NOTHING about electronics, and I mean NOTHING. The Superhawk guy has been stretching the truth to maximize his dollar for a long time now. In the beginning, eBay was very cool! Alas it has been compromised by many shady sellers and buyers. To make things worse, we are extorted into using their PayPal system and that is that. If for one would like to see them take a hit so we could get somebody else in there... That Browning Eagle Superhawk has for sale is no more special than mine and I bought it from a truck driver back in the early 80's...

Ebay was great when they first set it up, and I signed up for Paypal early on, before they were owned by Ebay. But it's basically degenerated into a mess.

Looks like that radio never sold the 1st time he had it on ecrap. Wanted $999.00 plus shipping at first. I questioned him about it. (never got a reply) and he included the shipping and reduced the price. ORRR, we have more then one test mule from the same guy? I think not. I wonder what makes the radio worth more now? Must be the age, its a bit older now>>>>

He's been pushing "Test Mule" Mark III's for awhile now. I has assumed it was the same one, but you never know.
I know I wouldn't buy one. If he lies about something like that, think about what else is a lie.

This kind of BS really gets me pissed off! I don't care if Queen Elizabeth broadcast to all her subjects on it. It's the radio's condition! And it certainly did not impress me when I saw it listed.
