I have been all over the internet looking for the channel mod for this radio, I have found several of them but they are pretty hazy with the alignment instructions, I finally did the mod through experimenting for some time. I wish when people put these mods on their site, they should make sure that it is a complete mod, not one that they copied from someone else on their website. there are three models of the Washington, Mine was version #3 it uses the MB 8719 pll, I did the crystal change to get the frequencies upper and lower. The alignment was a real trip, I had to add a trimmer cap in series with the new crystal to bring the crystal to the right frequency so that I could do the alignment. What was missing was they forgot to mention in ALL the instructions is the radio must be on channel 19 before you try to align the radio. It is not as simple as just changing out the crystal. if anyone has the COMPLETE mod, I wish that they would post it for all to see. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all on this forum. 73. I can't find the one somebody did to mine, uses three 2 position switches.

I just checked CB Tricks, I'm sure that you did too. All that they have is the owners manual, schematic, and block diagram, no alignment instructions unless I missed something. If you know anyone that has the complete set of Master Tune Up manuals, they show everything. I have them here but I have no scanner. I've done a few Uniden Washingtons with the same PLL chip as yours and it requires 2 or 3 switches for jumping the chip. I didn't have to align the radio but replacing the master chip as you did probably does require an alignment. This is the best that I can do for you, someone on here surely has the alignment info. Does the radio seem like it needs aligned since you changed the crystal?

I'm looking at Master Tune up manual Vol. III. The crystal mod is on page 13 but it's confusing. It claims to use an 11.1125 crystal but aslo says to use a 6 position rotary switch with it. (double pole). shows no wiring to the switch but it tells you to adjust L18 (tripler can) on each position and adjust it if the frequencies are a little off. In volume one, VR3 is the transmit frequency, Vr5 is carrier balance, Vr6 is Am power, Vr8 is driver bias, (check TP8 for 35 ma). VR9 is final balance ( check Tp7 for 45 ma). SSB power is Vr7 (ALC). This is all of the information that I have, hope it helps.

Hi Tombstone, You can't do the Clarifier mod, if you do, VR3 is disconnected and you can't adjust the LSB frequency for xmit. I had to undo this mod to make the frequency adjustment. Also, the 11.1125 crystal is the original crystal that came with the radio. If you want the upper freq,s you must change that crystal with an 11.3258 mhz one. use 2 small on off switches and completely isolate pin 10 on the pll chip, one switch does the grounding of pin 10 on and off, the other switch connects pins 11 and 12 on and off. That is how to get all the uppers and lowers, did not have to adjust the VCO at all.
