Does this radio require the mic being plugged in to have ears, and does anyone know the wiring requirements inside a D104 deck mic for it? It also has a Digi-Scan with which I am not familiar.

The Centurion is a relay switched radio, as as such, does not require the mic plugged in to receive. If I recall, the mic wiring should be Tip=Audio, Ring=PTT, Shell=Shield.

My buddy just picked up one of these at the flea market. Great audio with the D 104.

Homer, the Digiscan is a tuner of sorts and isn't a true slider as it will only jump up or down in steps of 10 KC on the legal 40 channel CB band, I think. It probably can be modified to tune the radio to go above channel 40 or below channel 1. They were popular in the 1970's and the one's that I've seen connected to the radio's power supply and oscillator with a ribbon cable. If you've found the manual that cbrown posted the link for, you probably already know this. I always thought that the Digiscan UFO was a handy item. I think that I have one like yours under my bench with instructions for connection to a Cobra 139 but I'm not really sure of the exact model of Cobra that I have the instructions for. I hope that this helps you some but it looks like cbrown has you covered with that link.

I installed one for a friend, but it was the Elite model. It covered 25.995 to 28.000 MHz in 5KHz steps. It had an "Out of Lock" indicator, and a "Home" channel button you could set to your favorite channel. It was defaulted to channel 16, but you could buy a programming kit to change it.
A nice little unit, too bad the radio wasn't as broadbanded as the Digi-Scan.

That's a nice unit with the five KHZ steps, that means that as well as the fourty channel band that you can go in between channels and get on the RC channels too. Nice frequency coverage too, especially above channel 40. That's the problem with frequency expansion in a lot of radios, not broad banded enough.

Thanks, Tombstone. it is as cbrown says, but this one doesn't have the home channel lock. I can't get any ears from the Courier, so I put it in the TRC458. They both have the 858 pll. Can't hear anything with it installed on that radio, either.
There are parts removed in the back left corner of the Digi-scan unit for installing on am 858 radio, and because the unit instruction manual cbrown pointed me to doesn't say what they are, and the photo is far too grainy to determine, I am at a loss of what they are so I can put them back in the unit to try to install it on another know good radio. I am not yet ready to blame the digiscan for the problems with the Courier and Realistic radios.
If it isn't too much trouble could you open it up and discover just what those parts are for me. Only the 858 pll requires the removal of those and i want to try this thing out on something else.
A clearer, cleaner photo of those things would be very helpful, too.
Thanks, again, fellas.

Homer, I can't tell by the pictures either, they have too much black and white contrast to see properly. I can't locate my Digiscan either, I may have sold it. If you have all of the connections correctly according to the instructions, maybe you need to program your Digiscan or try touching up the radio's VCO. This is all that I can suggest, good luck!
