I haven't heard one personally, but William (Rolling Radios) likes them, if I recall correctly.
Anyone here have any experience with them yet? They sure look nice.

Thanks for the link!
Looks to be a nice radio, the face kind of reminds me of my Kenwood TS-570D in a way. It's a real shame Cobra doesn't make a good 40 channel AM/SSB Base anymore like the Cobta 2000,142 and 139. They were all solid good talking radios!

It's a shame no one really makes any nice base radios any more (CB, that is).

It's a shame no one really makes any nice base radios any more (CB, that is). Other than the Galaxy 2547, I don't know if there are any other new type accepted CB base stations out there. Yes, there are a bunch of "export"/10 meter bases out there, but not strictly legal CB's.

Ya, I know. Kind of a shame for those of us who has almost a limitless selection of base radios to choose from back in the day.
I don't know why they don't make at least one base radio per manufacturer. Just make a nice case and put one of your mobile radios electronics inside with a nice regulated power supply and decent speaker.

Just make a nice case and put one of your mobile radios electronics inside with a nice regulated power supply and decent speaker. That's all the Galaxy 2547 is. In fact, most of the old school solid state base radios were simply a mobile radio chassis stuck in a big case with a power supply. I would have to guess that the reason there aren't more type accepted base radios made is that the manufacturers sense that the really serious base station operators will gravitate toward the export style radios, and that there is just more demand for mobile radios in general (which can always be used on a base with a suitable power supply).

Sadly, you are right Sandbagger. I guess there is no financial incentive for them to make a nice base radio nowadays.

Well I took the plunge and bought one of these the other day on Ebay. Radio is new, got it for a great price of $98.50 shipped... with a $20.00 mail-in rebate. Total Price $78.50 shipped!
Radio just arrived, haven't had a chance yet to try it... but man this sure is a pretty radio ;D If it talks as good as it looks, I'll be a very happy person!
Also bought a new microphone to go along with it since I will be using this on Base, it's a Astatic AST-878DM. It doesn't look bad, kind of cheap feeling, but if it works then I can deal with it!
Give you all my opinion of the radio and microphone by Friday!

Well I finally got a chance to play with this radio this morning, and I must say that I am happy with it stock straight out-of-the--box! Radio dead key is 4 watts on the money, about 10 watts pep with a stock mic, 14 watts pep using a Astatic Silver Eagle. The audio is pretty flat using the stock mic, but with the Silver Eagle the radio sounds great with plenty of punch.... as good as my Cobra 2000.
The receive is nice and smooth, good speaker, nb/anl work good. You can change the display for different colors, I like the green and the yellow. You can set the time, alarm clock, and it has weather channels as well. Reads channel and frequency, displays transmit and receive.
Very nice CB Radio for someone that only runs AM. For what I paid for it, I would buy it again!

Nice to see that you can still get a good CB right out of the box.

Looks to be a nice radio, the face kind of reminds me of my Kenwood TS-570D in a way. It's a real shame Cobra doesn't make a good 40 channel AM/SSB Base anymore like the Cobta 2000,142 and 139. They were all solid good talking radios! Problem is Cobra didn't make them. They farm them out to the cheapest supplier. The 2000 was a good radio. I have a Uniden Madison, latest version with digital clock and 8719. I am soon going to mod it out a lot, including a freq counter in place of the clock, a switching 30 amp supply, all blue leds, and since the power supply will have the ump, about a 150 kicker in it. I also have a 135-A in the shed. Need to clean it, re-cap it and then align and try it on the air. Same board as a Tram D-60, which for some reason has always been one of my favorite mobiles. Has anyone been inside the latest 148 from China. pure-d junk. New one I had was off 100hz from factory. Found a cap from board to case unsoldered and power and mod sucked (2 watts and 80%). Now I know they have to cut the power and mod down to be FCC accepted, but that is a far cry from FCC rules

Now I know they have to cut the power and mod down to be FCC accepted, but that is a far cry from FCC rules Well that's pretty much true for any solid state radio (and many tube rigs too) made since the 60's. Just about any of the popular makes of CB radios could be narrowed down to a handful of Japanese electronics companies. Cybernet, Uniden, Toshiba, Panasonic, Alps, GRE, pretty much made all of the different makes of radios. The Cobra 135 and the Tram Diamond 60 were both made by Toshiba, although they were not "identical". The Cobra 135 had separate AM and SSB finals, which the D-60 did not have. The crystal synthesizer was darn near the same and were modded for extra frequencies in the same way. Today the Japanese have outsourced to the 3rd world of the Pacific rim, and the quality has suffered as a result. That's one reason I like running my antique vintage radios......

well what has wrecked the quality is not were its made but cheap labor. I mean if someone wanted to make a high quality USA made cb radio the price would probaly close to $1000-2000 plus

And no one is going to pay that much for a 40 channel CB.
