Thanks Ron Typically, those old "brick" style walkie-talkies were designed with a battery holder which would take either 8 Alkaline, or 10 nicad type batteries. When using Alkalines, there were supposed to be 2 "dummy" batteries, that needed to be installed in the extra 2 spots.

The Dyna Com 23 actually used 10 alkaline batteries. Here is the manual:

Interesting, that would give a voltage of 15V. And that manual was for a Dyna-Com 2A, a diffferent radio.
