Hey Everybody!
Hi... My name is George and I am addicted to C.B radio... Do I need help? Well my doctor says I do, but I don't believe him. Anyway I recently purchased a Johnson 250 25th anniversary and want to wire a D-104 to it... I Know some of the classic guys out here would know how to perform this feat...So how about a little help, it would help me and the wife out a bunch! Besides... We have to keep this thing called C.B radio alive....Right?

Do you connect the sheild and white together? or am I just reading this wrong? No, you connect the shield to the shell on the microphone plug. You need a 6 wire Astatic base to make this work. If you only have a 4 wire it will not work at all. Follow Sandbaggers wiring and you should be fine.

No I've just got the tug 8 four wire old school D-104. I've got a couple of D-104s coming via USPS and they aught to be here any day. So hopfully one of those might work. But for right now, I'm considering just wiring up the Turner Expander 500 to it,and give that a try. I'll try it tonight and let you know the results as soon as I do! 10-4?

What Sandbagger said. For the 250, any microphone you wire to the radio has to be six wire. A bunch of the Turner Expander 500 series were six wire.
If you do look for a six wire Astatic, stay away from the Silver Eagle. The Johnson 250 likes a Hi-Z input and the preamp in the Silver Eagle will not match correctly.

Actually, I don't believe there is an unamplified 6 wire D104 (at least I've never seen one). Anyway, practically all tube rigs are hi-impedence, and preamplifiers do not have an issue matching to them. A low impedence mic can usually work in a high impedence circuit. It's the other way around when you run into problems.

Hi fellow Model Johnson 250 owner, GREAT GREAT RADIO. I got nothing but 5 by 5 reports, It had a D-104 on it when I bought it (N.O.S. radio and mic.) in boxes. I don't know how many wires it had, but it worked GREAT.. Now I'm looking for a 223 or 124M (is the 124 all Transistors ?? ) Hope this helped... YOU CAN DO IT... freddbro@aol.com

If the expander 500 is 6 wire it shoudl work. The wiring from the Turner book is: 1 - White 2 - Red 3 - Black 4 - Yellow 5 - Blue Shell - Shield Tried this wiring combo and this isn't the one. I just get a real funny farting sound when I push the key!

Usually the plugs have numbered pins, but they can be hard to see. That wiring is right out of the Turner book, so I would tend to think it's correct. Unless, of course, someone modified the mic or replaced the cord and it's no longer factory original.

Look closely at the plug, the pins should be numbers on the back where you solder the wires. You may need a magnifying glass.
