I enjoyed listening to all of you in on the C.R.R. last night. I had to stop transmitting after it started pouring rain outside. Ladder line detunes rather dramatically when it gets wet. I looked over and my SWR had shot up, so I just started listening. By the time it stopped raining the skip between Pennsylvania and South Carolina had dropped out.

You were half-way through the red zone on my Cobra 2000 S-meter, which is about the same signal Night Train gives me, and he's about 3 1/2 miles away.... How long were you able to listen after we stopped talking?

Nice to have a chat with you Mike. That Lazy H sure works. It is on my to do list! You consistantly rise above the other skip stations. I have the room, just need the time and a little help from a potato gun,LOL.

From that point on I was listening over the live feed, so I don't know how long the propagation lasted after that. Night Ranger

They key is making sure the ladder line feeding the center of the Lazy H comes away at a 90 degree angle or the radiation pattern gets skewed. Also you want to find the length of ladder line running back to the shack that requires the least amount of inductance on your tuner to get the 1:1 match. I'm not sure if that is a voltage loop or a current loop, but if you wind up at a length that requires alot of inductance to tune the antenna tuner it will cause the 4:1 balun at the tuner to heat up and change value with high power. Mine is down for the time being. I can no longer connect to it from outside of my internal network. I think my ISP is playing some sort of port blocking game. I haven't had time to play in that sandbox, but I'll figure it out at some point, but for now Pete's server is the one that you go to when you click on the link from here.

I had to cut down one tree to make room for my Lazy H facing Pennsylvania, and about four trees to make room for co-phasing two Lazy H antennas towards Pennsylvania. I also had to cut down one big tree to make room for my six element curtain array. The Lazy H is worth it though. It is a great DX performer not just here in the U.S., but I have had some great reports out of Europe as well. You'll be glad you made one if you like talking skip. I even talked groundwave from where I am near Charleston, South Carolina to Woodruff, South Carolina which is about 180 miles. The guy on the other end was on horizontal as well with a Quad. -Night Ranger

I may have the answer to your streaming problem. This should work even if your ISP is blocking in-bound ports. I'm not sure if it will let you stream 24/7, but streaming for C.R.R. should work fine. It will also handle many more users at the same time than your previous method. Check out the link below. www.ustream.tv/Night Ranger

I may be able to fix things on my end once I get the bandwidth to look at it....

I know you said it's stingy, but where there is a will, a gigantic curtain array, two 3-500zg tubes, and some strong propagation there is a way. The strongest sporadic E skip of the year always occurs in June in the Eastern United States. : ) Night Ranger

You've already hit the +20db over S9 area on that meter. You're not likely to go much further than +10 over on the Royce, as the only people to do that are closer than 2 miles away from me (or running a decent amount of power). But it's certainly a goal to try......

Ok, I changed the UDP port I was using for the audio streamer and it's back up. But I can't tell if it's working from the outside world, so if anyone wants to try it its at: mms://24.115.11.140:82

I made a hair past S9 on one or two occasions last summer, but just barely and only for a second or two. Hmmm... 1) Ridiculously long yagi wire beam? 2) Two co-phased Lazy H antennas? 3) Multi-element wire delta loop quad? Night Ranger

It took nearly a kilowatt to do it, but you managed to take out the Chester Country knuckleheads

I can't blame Spitfire for setting his Kenwood TS-480 (I think that is what that is) on channel 13 full time. I would not want to listen to those bozos on 21 either. By the way, I have actually had this in place for a few months for my own convenience. Of course when your IP changes I have to update my DNS server. sandbagger.shadowstorm.com = > 24.115.11.140 C:\>nslookup Default Server: UnKnown Address: 172.16.0.1 > sandbagger.shadowstorm.com. I think this was the week you went on vacation and left your beam pointed south. -Night Ranger
