If you have no tools at all to work with, I would say the answer is "not much". Has this radio been this way since you first saw it? Or did it work okay and then just quit? That can be an important detail. The technical info for the radio is important, even if you have years of experience doing this. You'll find it here: www.cbtricks.com/radios/dak/mark_ix/index.htmIf it has always been like this since you first saw it, I would first suspect that someone got inside the radio and started twisting adjustments. If he did this while the mike was keyed, trying to get a higher wattmeter reading, there could be an undesired side effect. If the adjustments for the receiver were randomly twisted around while transmitting, that alone may be the problem. When he unkeys the mike, that adustment slug is now way off of the correct peak setting. If this happens to two or three or more of them, the receive can become quite weak or borderline "dead". This is the biggest reason you will hear the advice "align the receiver first" so often to questions about weak receivers. And if that's not the problem, the only way to tell is to attempt the reciever alignment and find out what difference it makes. Do you have any way to feed a steady signal into the receiver? This makes it a lot easier to tell what result you get when turning an adjustment, looking for a peak in the receiver's signal level. 73
