I was at a hamfest the other day, and a fellow had a pickup truck full of new big sticks, he had picked them up at a closed down communication shop, all sealed in the tubes..I picked one up..price $15 each..put it up today flat swr, and works good/and receives good..what a bargain. They were produced on the stamp which showed 1992... DOCTOR/795 ;D

I think it shows big stick lll. I will look further though. Now I have a problem with it. It acts like it is grounded somewhere, unless on the coax connector I have to unscrew the outer casing of the pl250 and just leave the center conductor in it works good but if the connector is screwed in..nothing. I thought it was the coax at first so I disconnected and put it on another antenna, works great. so coax is good. hopefully it isn't inside the antenna..any suggestions cb brown DOCTOR/795

Did it just stop working? You may have some water seepage into the antenna. The older Big Sticks were known for that, but it usually took a few years of UV exposure before it happened. You can check where the tip screws into the base ans see if you see any cracks. You can also take the antenna down and turn it upside down over a piece of parer and leave it for a bit and see if there is any water.
Since you tried the coax on a different antenna and it worked, that pretty much eliminates water in the coax.
