We got out out some Walkie-Talkies and "HELP" radios...AKA "bricks" the other evening.
The GE HELP 3-5908A radio I used has been tweaked a little so it ran a straight 4 pill nicely. The stock Cobra "Road Trip" and RS 21-1679 Walkie Talkies I had worked wonderfully on low power setting into a Palomar two pill driving the straight 4 pill then out to an IMAX 2000. I had a separate RS Speaker/ Mic for them also. It looked like a Borg science project with the LMR400 coax, 12VDC, mic and external speaker cables going into and out of the small units.
Who says you can't have fun with Walkie-Talkies ;D We should run them more often...

It even had a 5 pin DIN mic plug so I could run an amplified mic with it. When run that way, you wouldn'tknow it was a walkie-talkie. But the receiver up and died on it, so I'll have to pull it apart and see what's up in there. I suspect the 10v blues or something similar.

I've still got one of these old Radio Shack TRC 216 walkie-talkies. Looks like new and still works fine. I tested it one time and it only had a range of about 2 or 3 miles with the on board antenna....it hears a whole lot better than it talks.

That TRC 216 is a clean looking radio.
Wow, look at all the ports on that baby. External antenna, mic, speaker and power ports. Plus a High/Low power switch for drivin' an amp...I mean, er....battery power savings.

I run multiple walkie talkies...
- Magnum 1012 - Pocketcom - GE 3-5979c - Midland 75-822
I love running QRP. I often try to make skip contacts with them (successful twice in 20 years) when I run the stock antenna or a high performance antenna. Obviously when I hook them up to my base/mobile antennas I have much better luck. However the Pocketcom can not be hooked up to an external antenna.
