#american# I got a new connex 3300 at a good price,i had it hooked up to the stock coax in my truck last week but wasnt getting very good inbound traffic,so I went and bought a new 12 ft piece and hooked it up yesterday and the needle only just went into the red when I keyed up.When in was pegging out before...why would it do that? Also want to get some work done to it eventually butu cant find anything but shady shops down here in the dallas - fort woth area...ANy feed back would be greatly appreciated.

When hooking up a new mobile with existing coax and antenna, you need to always check the swr's when you first put in in....no 2 radios will read the same on the same antenna/coax. It might be "in the ballpark" with a new radio, but it needs to be fine tuned to the radio you run. The indication on the radio's meter won't read the same either. Use an external meter to check your SWR accurately. If the Connex is a dual final model and its replacing a single final radio, this is even more important because of the new radio's higher output.

A Standing Wave Ratio reading is just what it is by definition, a ratio between the forward power of the radio and the return power back to the radio. The SWR ratio should read the same after the external meter is calibrated, regardless if the radio's output is 1 watt or 20 watts. Your system probably has a different match now that you've replaced the coax cable since you radios meter no longer slams into the red. It is very difficult to guess over the Internet. The only way to know is to take an accurate SWR reading of your system.
