I have a Cobra 150 GTL that has a High and Low RF power switch. This is a dual transistor final rig. I can set the dead key just fine when the switch is in the Low power position. The radio will adjust anywhere between 1 watt and 6 watts then swing to 15 watts PEP on AM. For some reason I can not set the dead key when the switch is in High power mode. The radio will dead key at 20 watts and swing to 30 watts no mater where the Low power DK is set. I'd like to get it to DK at 8-10 watts and swing to 35 watts on the High power switch setting. 20 watts DK seems a little high for this rig that uses dual 16watt RD16HHF1 MITSUBISHI RF Power Transistors. There are High and Low power modulation adjustments, but they don't affect the DK. Maybe there is a coil adjustment I'm missing or something? Anyone have any luck setting the dead key lower on these Cobra 150 GTL rigs in the High power mode?

The service manual designates L-21 as the high power key adjustment. I have one of these rigs...pretty decent radio for what I paid for it...Mine runs 2 1/2 watts on low with great swing and 12 on high...doesn't seem to swing really great on high, but I've only tuned it for use on low...Mine developed an overload problem on the recieve (stray RF running around the board looking for a ground)....but Cobra issued an easy fix for it..It's Tech bulletin #10043...Not all of the 150's developed the issue, but the on the ones that did, the problem renders your recieve almost useless....Its a simple fix: www.cbtricks.com/radios/cobra/150gtl_dx/tsb/cobra_150gtl_dx_200gtl_dx_tsb_10043.pdfOther than that, I've had decent luck with mine..

Thanks for the reply Doc Hammer. This radio also exhibited a "popping" sound when transmitting and then I saw the SB you mentioned from Cobra. I added a 1 uf cap in the area they showed and the noise went away. The minus of the cap goes on the larger 1/4" trace area. The plus of the cap goes on the very small line trace. Interestingly, someone looks like they tried to place a cap there previously but didn't finish or removed it.
I think you're right that this radio is not a swinger on high, but I'll try L21 anyway.
Another mod I want to complete is to speed up the echo as mentioned in the SB. As soon as you turn it on you're in an echo chamber. I like just a touch of reverb.
I think it's a great looking rig and the receive audio is good on this one. I've gotten good audio reports with it on low power ;D It's made in the Philippines. Wonder if Uniden made it for Cobra?
