Anyone know what the Mic Power Amplifier listed on the front bezel of some GE CB radios is ? Does this mean that you should not need/ use an amplified mic on the radio since it already has one built in? Been wanting a GE radio other than my "HELP" HT and I'm getting this 40 Channel 3-5813B mobile radio that has that feature. Some of the GE CB radios get crazy money I'll have to let y'all know how it performs. Here's the sales pic of the radio that needs a bit of cleaning up, but overall looks pretty decent:

Those GE radios are your basic Cybernet chassis, nothing special about the mic circuitry. If you're lucky that radio has the PLL-02a chip, but some of the later ones have the PLL-03a in them which is not modifiable. I can't for the life of me explain why those radios fetch "crazy money". There is nothing special about them. The "Super Base", is probably the only GE that is unique enough to warrant a following. But even that radio is just the Cybernet SSB chassis with an extra speech processor.

The GE rigs with the " Mic Power Amp" on the front bezel had an additional amplifier stage in the mike audio circuit. These GEs had much better audio, even with the stock GE mike. The audio chip was upgraded in these models also. 73s.

Pretty sure it is just a modulation light. All radios have a power amplifier for the audio. I think it was a marketing ploy. It does flash from the audio amp circuit.

On the GEs without the mike preamp, the mike input went directly to the output modulator chip as shown in figure 1. The rigs with the built in preamp had an amplifier stage (Q15) preceding the output modulator ... Figure 2. The units w/o the preamp were REAL dogs, while the ones with the preamp stage were light years better. Amazing what a single transistor can do. 73s. - 399

I am not aware of any amplified power microphone, either hand-held or desk type, produced by GE.

I have a ge base with same label. Tried to wire two mics.d104 handheld and a turner sidekick. They both just squeal. Great radio though

Like a small audio amplifier for speakers and such? Can I use a linear amplifier or one specifically made for a CB currently I am using Kinter MA170 is it good enough or I have to choose any others amplifiers for my speakers any suggestion?
