Mine was a trc-7 from radio shack. it had 6 channels and i had to buy a set of crystals for each channel. Somtime around 1975 i was around the age of 13.Some day i will restore that old radio back to like new condition. That radio cost in the neighborhood of 65 bucks with the 102 inch steel whip.If i remember right the crystals tx and rx were about 8 bucks a set. One could buy a cobra nowadays for that price.

Mine was a TRC something i cant remember the model # (479 i think) ........ It was a 40 channel AM mobile which got HOTTER THAN ANYTHING!! (You could burn your hand on the back of it (BUT IT WAS STABLE NO MATTEER HOW HOT IT GOT)) I ran that thing off a TV antenna @ my cousins house and it got out wonderfully! (Match must have been sky high though) Anyone have a site that lists ALL TRC MODEL PICTURES?? (I know i could recognize it then) I found this but it sucks! www.firecommunications.com/tandy.shtml

Ha! I don't have the radio but it was, I think, a six channel tube type RCA mobile/base unit with 23 channel tunable receive. I had a Turner M +2 hand mike on it and used a Super Mag antenna with RG8 coax. That setup talked well for what it was. this was around 1965 and I was 15. Up until then I had a one channel JC Penney 100 milliwatt walkie talkie and worked the locals with it. I think it had channel 11 or 14 in it. The good old days when if someone got out of line they ended up with a straight pin through the coax!

I do. a TRC-422A. Not only that, but my father was going thru old books he had, and found the ad from that Christmas with a note "I want a CB". He just gave them to me last week.

This is an interesting thread, considering it's been buried for 4 years.
Well, I don't have my 1st 100 mW CB base station, but I have my second 100 mW 3 channel Midland Walkie Talkie that I got when I was 13 in 1973.
I also don't have my first 23 channel radio either, but I have my 2nd. A Lafayette Comstat 25 which I got in 1974. I recently overhauled it and got it back on the air

I no longer have my first CB, however I have the first one I bought new, in 1981. Hard earned paper route money for my Navaho TRC 441. Nothing fancy, but damn it was expensive back then. I still use it on a regular basis. Dropped the deadkey to 2 watts, use a D104 and the radio is one loud talker, right up there with the modern splatter-boxes, with no splatter!

My first CB, a Cobra 29, was sadly stolen. I swear, if I catch the people responsible, I'll take no prisoners...
Also, the policeman who came to write a police report (so I can have my insurance pay for something) never filed it ... lost in paperwork in Indianapolis somewhere.
As a result, I had to work 18 70-hr weeks to save up enough to pay for the broken windows, stolen CD player, stolen cobra 29, and the other random acts of vandalism they did to my truck. And by then ... I had to work another 4 weeks to pay for a full interior clean-up, as it was moldy from water damage. ARRGH!
Enough of my little rant and frustration... *mutters* lowlifes!
