Operator Ron passed this interesting photo on to me and we were wondering what tubes they are. Sandbagger mentioned that they might be power diodes? Look closely and you will get a clue to the scale of them...

Looks like an air-cooled version of the tubes usd in the WLW 50,000-Watt transmitter from the 1930s.
But those were water cooled, so that's not it.
The big bundle of wires at the top of each tube look as if it has a 3-phase cathode. Serves to reduce the filament current through any one wire, and still have enough wattage to light them up.
Seems to me that ITT made tubes like this, but I have no idea what type number these might be.
