I have a spitfire cb base that I am considering selling. I have the original box for it and some of the accessories are new still sealed in the plastic in the box. Not sure if it is true or not but aquantaince told me approx. 20 years ago that this cb base was the second most powerful base released in the Canadian market. It is 55 watts. I figure the box with contents must be very rare. The pics are of actual box and contents but the pic of the base is just one I found off this site. The base I have is identical and in good shape but in storage. My grandfather bought this new and it was still working perfectly when he was on the farm approx12 years ago. I am looking to find out the value in Canadian $$ if I were to sell this Thanks, Kelly

Many base CB Radios have numbers that high & many much higher but that has nothing to do with the transmitted output power. It sounds good but it was misleading to the consumer. SIX-SHOOTER

Its a nice radio , grimace is on point. It would be a nice buy for anyone interested in 70s tube radios. They are reasonable to repair and maintain. 321

I serviced a lot of home-stereo gear in the 70s and 80s. The electrical rating on your analog TV would be printed on the rear cover, and showed the power it consumes from your wall socket. Nobody bothered to refer to his 23-inch analog color TV as a "320 Watt" TV.
A stereo receiver would have the same power-consumption rating printed on the back cover. Lost track of how many "200-Watt" stereo receivers were in fact only built to deliver 30 or 40 Watts of audio power to each speaker. But the only "Watt" number printed on the outside of the unit was the total max power consumption from the power cord. The overall efficiency was typically between 10 and 30 percent, comparing the power consumed to the audio power available to two speakers.
That rating on this radio is the same thing. How much it will consume from the wall socket.
The power that the transmitter can deliver to the antenna while transmitting will be just under 10 percent of that "55-Watt" number, max.

Hey dq, do you have any 40chnnl tube radios to trade for my yellow bird. can't stand the color. 321 LOL,that is the 1st time I have ever heard that one. The YELLOW Color is what makes it so sought after even though it is the exact same radio as so many others such as the Gemtronics GTX 5000,Teaberry Model T,& many more. I have all of those I listed & (2) of the 240D & they are all great AM CB Radios in my opinion. SIX-SHOOTER

I don't understand the price difference from the other models but I only have $150 total in both of my 240D's & one is Mint inside & out & talks like a champ. SIX-SHOOTER

Channel Guard is a Filter that is suppose to help reject Bleed Over from other channels. I think some used Crystal Filters for that purpose. The filtering was a lot better back then since some used Collins Filters as well & today's radios are just junk.

Thanks for that reply ! Nice to know what some of this stuff does...the mic has 5 wires but the end was cut off. The mic receptacle on the radio is old style, 5 pin plug with no threads for a collar. Wonder if i can swap it out for a 4 pin conventional plug ?

Wonder if i can swap it out for a 4 pin conventional plug ? Should be easy enough. I have a 4 pin Cobra plug in most all of my radios including my TRAM D201A & Golden Eagle MK IVA. Makes it simpler using the same microphones & not needing a special microphone or adapters. SIX-SHOOTER

I don't like the yellow either. I far prefer the green of the T123. I agree, the green of the T123 was a lot nicer to look at. The yellow catches your eye more easily, but i prefer the green.

I am still deciding what to do with it. I was hoping it was worth a bit more than it is with the original box and parts and all. It would be expensive to ship due to the size and weight as well.
I may put it up for sale on Flea Bay but I would be asking a premium. If it didn't sell I wouldn't have any worries of keeping it
Thanks to all who responded
