The maco v58 is now working as my third antenna.ive retuned it and remeasured it and spoke to maco then did it all over again. Result;1.4 to 1 across the 11m 40chnnls. Still acts with a will of its own. If it likes an amp,no matter how big or small the output, it plays nice. If it doesn't like the amp or the radio, for that matter, the swr is sky high (2.5 and up) and it goes into the badlands with modulation pep! Craziest thing...that decision never changes. Same amp or radio gets the same result each time i test. But then there's this, if i run an amp on low it gets the high swr treatment. Flip it to high and bingo! 1.4 to 1! Same with any radio that has a variable output. Ok so ive learned, after two divorces, to leave the crazy ones alone. So in walks the smart, good lookin, well built italian beauty... sirio. She's a tall pretty thing in a frilly skirt! Thats right. Google a picture of the sirio 2016 5/8 groundplane and you will see the hottest ground plane radial set up. ive spoken with sirio directly in California and got the best treatment ever!from a knowledgeable tech that not only listened but asked me all kinds of questions about my antenna needs and wants and future radio endeavors! Ok put it together, easy. Directions were clear and simple. The quality and attention to detail is hands down best ive ever seen or touched. I know there are custom builders out there but this amtenna, which is rated for 3000 watts pep is fantastic for a cber who may flip on 600 hundred to complete a contact. The use of high grade aluminium and stainless steel(in place of chrome) and a machined billet aluminum base hub is really well done, then the heavy copper coil is housed in a clear, super-duty, impact resistant plastic canister the size of an old motor oil can. The mounting plate is heavy aluminum set for three stainless steel u-clamps to be used on 2" mast pipe.very sturdy. The main or first section of this vertical telescopic antenna is fixed in its place via stainless steel military grade high pressure hose clamp, you need to see it to understand its not a typical worm drive hose clamp. This one is the real deal. That is the only clamp on this thing. the other sections are also fixed length set with 2 screws and covered with a polyurethane sleeve that snuggly caps each joint.but if some how moisture gets by, there are ample weep holes throughout this entire antenna. Then at the top, the final section is set and locked in place with an allen type barrel set screw. Nicely machined into a stainless feral.thats where you adjust the lenth to tune it. So i Put this thing on a temporary mast 4ft. Off the top of my garage roof and witnessed 1.1 across the band and have gotten great reports. As weather gets better it will go up on my 40ft. Tower,on ten ft. Of 2"mast. Done. 321

It's true that some antennas may present a complex impedance that some amps may not like and if they are the least bit unstable, they will act up with them. I've worked on amps for people where they act up on their setup, but I couldn't reproduce the problem on mine. It's just the nature of the beast, and you'll pull your hair out trying to figure out exactly why. But the bottom line is that it's not the antenna's fault. That being said, if there are antenna designs that work "better" with those unstable amps, then it's somewhat of a "bandaid" fix.......

I understand and agree with your observations. I have a tx 800 that plays well with everyone, but my texas star 500v will not work well with the maco 58 ground plane but loved my antron99. Who knows. Point is, when sirio is at work everyone plays nice. Love this antenna!

Just went and did a little research. That Sirio looks like a great antenna. It says 10m & CB, tunable. I wonder if it is THAT broadbanded... or do you actually have to tune something ON the antenna to stretch it one way or the other?
Also, price doesn't look bad for the quality that you describe....... hope you get further on with it!!!!

It comes with a simple chart and set the very last little section to the chart. 1.1 across the band. Beautiful antenna
