That's an interesting question. Tube rigs pretty much went the way of the dinosaur shortly after the CB band increased to 40 channels in 1977. At that time, The Browning MK IV, the Tram D201A, Sonar FS2340, and a handful of Panasonic chassis radios were the only ones left. Both Tram and Browning went out of business shortly afterward, and the companies that offered up the Panasonic chassis radios pretty much faded from the public eye as well. I would say that by 1979/80, there were no more tube CB's being made.

As an afterthought, I was pretty much only considering full tube rigs (or mostly tube rigs, as all of the 40 channel tube rigs also had solid state components in them). But if you also want to consider mostly solid state hybrid rigs with only one or 2 tubes in them, there were also the DAK 9 and DAK 10. Although I don't think they made it much past 1980 either.

Thanks for letting me know . That's quite a distance away. A little too far for a direct shot, and too close to skip. But it's worth a try...... If you have a large beam on a tall mountain and maybe 1000 watts......

Yeah, the skip was pretty brutal last night. Lots of Good ol' Boys down south coming in like locals. But yes, by all means try to get an old radio night going. All you need is one or two guys to start it with. Get the old rigs running, talk about them, and see who comes out of the woodwork. You never know.....

That happened to me, I talk to a friend on the CB nightly during the week and for weeks it was just the two of us, usually for 2 hours or so just rag chewing away about nothing. One day he went to get something to eat, so he was gone for 20 minutes or so. next thing I know someone asks for a break wondering where to two guys who always talk are. Turns out we had a group of 4 guys just sandbagging our conversations, and they didn't want to interrupt. So you never do know who is out there listening.

I'm sure. Apparently a lot more people still listen to the radios. Just not sure why they won't talk, as I'm sure more activity would bring others to talk to.

I agree 100% .... too much sandbagging going on and not enough talking .
