The FCC is reducing the cost of GMRS License from $70 for 10 years to $35 for 10 years so I've decided that I'll also get a GMRS License as well once the price drops which could be a few months.I spoke with a Lady at the FCC last week & she said more than likely it would be between 30 to 90 days before the new fees take affect for GMRS & Amateur radio Licenses.I will be purchasing a WOUXUN KG-1000G mobile as my radio of choice.I know I could use an Amatuer Radio like many others but I prefer a Legal Radio on every band that I operate on.I thought about the BTECH 50x1 but the Online Reviews are less than good for it.Just what I need is one more radio.I am purchasing the model & brand with the Best Reviews from real world users. {:>)

FRS, MURS, GMRS, CB and Ham. I have the the frequencies of the citizen's services programmed in my scanner. I hear a good deal of traffic (mostly neighborhood kids) on FRS. I rarely hear traffic on MURS. There are only a couple of GMRS repeaters in my area. Traffic is sporadic on these. The few conversations I do hear are very bland and business related. Interestingly, there are a couple of hecklers and jammers that seem to hang out on one of the broader coverage repeaters. That's probably why I never pursued GMRS seriously. It's really not a place for hobby users. GMRS is what 11 meter CB was originally intended to be before the tsunami of hobby users overran the CB band and transformed it into what it is today.

I liked the idea of the GMRS service, as my immediate family could operate off of my license. However, as noted by Sandbagger there isn't much happening on the service, and jammers do seem to enjoy finding repeaters to play with.
