I was given a clean Golden Eagle. Transmitter works good. But the receiver has some problems. Someone had moved the 31.400 crystal off the tube & put it on a 2 way switch. They had another crystal on the other side.It had been removed. Sometimes you can receive and talk on ch 20, but most times it sounds like SSB. I am ordering a new 31.400 crystal an put it back where it suppose to be. Jim/238

Putting it back (if you had no other plans) is likely a good idea. But, I wonder if the switch may have been bad?

I do not like switch's so i am going to put it back stock. They had used non shield wire about 6" long. Jim/238

Just be very nice to that crystal. The lead wires tend to get really brittle where they emerge from the bottom of the crystal case. Any attempt to bend those lead wires should be done with the jaws of needle-nose or forceps between the body of the crystal and where you bend it. Putting any kind of bend onto the wire at its base tends to snap it off.
Far as I know, the 31.4 crystal is still available from Barkett. But when he runs out I suspect it will be forever.
