I would check VR-1, the 150 Zener. It supplies the voltage for the mode indicators plus the plate of V1B, the 12AX7 oscillator. If the zener shorts it will usually open up R61, an 8.5K 15W resistor..

That will work to test it. But I would buy a 15w to put in if it is in fact bad. Did you check it with a meter? If it's bad make sure you check the Zener for short.

You don't need special parts. For small orders of parts ebay. Browning specific Barkett electronics. Mouser or Digikey for larger quantities.

There are two basic kinds of part found in a Browning radio. First, the "generic" parts that are made by more than one manufacturer that you can buy from more than one industrial supplier. Mouser, Newark, Parts Express and Antique Electronic Supply are sources for that stuff. Second are the "custom" parts. Things that were either designed to use in that radio, or just rare because they are old. Parts that are specific to Browning radios are sold by Barkett Electronics in Trinity Alabama. His web site is www.goldeneagleradios.comIt's always best to establish what has failed before you start disassembling it. I would suggest putting your test meter in "ohms" and clipping the negative probe to the chassis. Next, touch the tip of the red probe to the terminal post on the 10-Watt zener diode. If it shows a short you will need that zener. This fault might also damage the big 8.5k resistor, but the meter cam tell you that as well. I'm reminded of a guy who found a 1975 car in grandma's garage that he inherits. Even if the mileage is low it will require a whole list of parts to replace because of age alone. A Mark III is between 52 and 46 years old. Years ago I posted a step-by-step description of how to bring this kind of radio up to date and replace all the electrolytic capacitors that fail from age alone. Just one problem. It was posted on the cb tricks forum, which has been gone for years. I should see if I have the files to re post that here. Even if you find and fix this one fault that has shut down your transmitter, the odds are that it has other problems, and the old leaky electrolytic capacitors will be part of that picture. 73

Usually 100% pure Chineesium and are typically way out of the listed tolerances (if indeed they are listed at all). And they still have "Toshiba" 2SC2879 transistors listed for 40-50 dollars, which are totally fake.

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying electronic parts on eBay if you know what you ate looking for, looking at , and do your homework. I buy a ton and have had no problems .

Learned my lesson about chinesium fleabay parts. Some suppliers are okay, but a batch of 10-Watt wirewound resistors we bought turned out to be about half defective. The other half checked okay, but I didn't trust them. Ended up throwing them out.
Exotic, expensive discontinued parts are the most-attractive types to be counterfeited, but not the only types.

The Toshiba 2SC2879 transistors were an example of bogus parts listed on Ebay, that's all. I was just offering up my opinion of the electronic parts listed on Ebay, nothing more. If you've had good luck with them, who am I to argue? No harm was meant in my post, just posting an opinion. My 2ยข so to speak.
