Frankly the old school SS CB sets do not work. The electrolytic capacitors have failed. In fact SS is way more unreliable than Tube type CB radios. I would only buy old CB SS radios if new in box or collectable such as Browning or Tram D201/D201A with new rebuild. Only vintage exception is Uniden Washington CBs that were built to about year 2000 with three buttons on lower right. President Washington are much older- avoid. Look for Cobra 25 LTD or 29 LTD. Year built in on the back. Cobra Mic on side connector are way too old- avoid. You want front mount mic connector.

I'm not sure what you consider old school 23ch SSB radios, but I have a 60's 2ch EFJ, a '71 Telsat 25A, and a 1970 Midland 13-880b that work great as long as they're maintained. The midland was my first, but my favorite is the lafayatte 25A |

The midland was my first, but my favorite is the lafayatte 25A I have a special love for the 25a as well. |
