Greetings, Just joined the group and have a question regarding the tubes in a Browning Golden Eagle Mark IVA. It concerns V203, 204 & 205. According to the factory service manual parts list & printing on the PCB it shows one type of tube while in the radio they are different. For example V204 shows in both the service manual and printing on the board as a 6BE6. Yet in the radio it is a 12AU7. Since 6XXX & 12XXX tubes use different sockets I'm wondering if this has something to do with Browning coming out the IVA radio without updating the listed info. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you & 73~MonkerZ

Nope, just poor proofreading. It's a genuine typo. And yes, V204 really should be a 12AU7A. 73

Are you talking about the transmitter or the receiver? They each have a separate schematic. In the receiver, the schematic shows V203 is a 6BA6, V204 is a 6BE6 and V205 is a 12AX7. In the transmitter, V203 is a 12AX7, V204 is a 12AU7 and V205 is a 6BQ5. The boards in some transmitters at V204 are mislabeled as 6BE6. Here are two pics that show that difference. Attachments:

Thank you so much! Sure glad I found this forum. The question regarded the transmitter tubes most of which tested good. Couldn't test the 6DS4's in the Rx so just bought new ones. Rig seems pretty good. Decent dead key wattage. Reciever is a bit off. Looks like it needs to be aligned. Typical ch. 6 chatter showing up between 6-7 on the dial. S-meter rises to about mid display and kind of stays there. Bounces a bit with incoming signal.
Anyone know of a reputable tech that would look at this bird?
Many thanks again, monkerz

Barketts was good, not sure if he still works on them. Contact: sales@goldeneagleradios.com
Nomad is also good, but if I remember he doesn't take shipped radios. Contact: info@nomadradio.com
