Yea, I had some spare time so I thought I'd see if I could make it down your way. Scooby Doo and One other guy (who's name escapes me (Old age thing)), were booming up to me. The rest were down in the s3 - s5 area, including the guy in Jersey (who's name I also forget... Jerry?). If I didn't have the local noise level, which was a constant S1, I would have heard you. I could tell you were in there, but just not enough to punch through the hash noise. I was running my Realistic TRC_451, and my foot was planted hard on the gas, with the Heathkit running at about 500 - 600 watts PEP. View Attachment I was planning to listen for the SSB CRR, but while mowing the lawn about an hour earlier I found a nest of ground wasp the hard way. I don't usually have a reaction to wasp or bee stings, but since they nailed me three or four times I immediately took two Benadryl just in case. About an hour later it was nap time as the Benadryl kicked in, so off to bed I went. Apparently the ground wasp did not expect me to sting back. I won! Night Ranger Ouch, dang nature always trying to win back there land lol!

Around these here parts, I'm known as the "Wasp Terminator". A can of Raid wasp and hornet killer in each hand, I take on the worst that these little buggers can dish out. Hanging nests, or buried in the ground, they don't stand a chance....... You didn't miss anything on the SSB roundup. It was a good turnout but there didn't seem to be much in the way of skip conditions, so you would not have heard anything from our area.

If you were Zero-Five aka FireStarter you just make your own conditions. With the Balls to the wall all knobs to the right! And Barbie girl as your theme song!

In the "big" mobile (my truck), I have a 2510, driving a Texas Star DX-600 into a Francis 7' fiberglass whip. I've already made the trip from the top of mount Pocono, back to Skeeter (70 miles) during a CRR. But I won't be taking that mobile when I hit the road. In my "small" mobile, I'm running an Icom 706 into an Antenna Specialists "Big Momma" antenna. A much better SSB radio, but 6 db less power, and a shortened antenna.

That three element beam really works well. The beam was only part of the equation. The other part was my Heathkit SB-200. With 600 watts PEP, it helps bridge the distance gap. I won't have either one of those in the car though........

Them guys have great ears so it could happen. Too bad you aren't taking the Big Truck that sounds like that would do it for sure! But I was surprised how well I made it up there on the Galaxy 2547 stock to Spitfire's place.

It needs some alignment on Sideband its a little off. It has a Turner Super Sidekick microphone on it. I personally think the Pace 1000b 23 has better audio than the 40 channel version. They have large meter on them that's why I like them and good audio!

Yea, I was on the road a bit earlier than the beginning of SSBCRR, but I did give a listen and a shout out from my 2142' peak on the top of the mountain, which was around 8:30-ish. Nothing heard unfortunately.

RatMan running 2950dx in Doylestown and Roach, checked in from Devon running his 2970dxN2 sounding good and another guy but I forget his handle. I have heard him on Spitfire's video gates before. Thanks to everyone that checked in hope to hear you next week!

Great to get to hear you fellas. I do however have a lot of local AM usage on 27.155 due to the large 476/ PA Turnpike widening project on going in Montgomery county. Allen Meyers Construction tri-axle trucks communicate via CB there. So I just popped in there to say hello and sandbag awhile. Quotes like "Does your wife know about that purchase?" and "The older I get, the longer the keys" had me rolling Oh Man! 2970N2 peaks @ 115+ watts on LSB:

It's finally up! CQ CQ DX A V-Quad! Don't see many of those any more. But when it's in the "V" configuration like shown, it's horizontally polarized, so it'll only be good for DX or if a local happens to have a flat side beam. It won't help you to be heard up here with the rest of the 'Roundup crew.

Waiting on rotor wire now to make it fully functional. It has a flat match so that's a good thing especially since it's been in the shed for like 15 years.

Reading up on this antenna I didn't realize that it was a full wave Delta Loop antenna. Well hope Amazon drops off my rotor wire today so I can spin around. And be ready for SSB Classic Radio Roundup tonight.
