I suppose there are some who like that "custom" look. To me, it simply takes away from the original vintage value. As do modifications like extra channels and peaking and, God forbid, an FET final? Not a good thing. I look at this the same way I do with vintage cars. If you have a nice vintage 1965 Mustang, or '67 Camaro etc., it would not enhance the value of the car to "update" them with more modern accoutrements. I might pay $600 for a mint condition original Tram or Browning. But no way would I spend the money for a "Frankenstein-ed" version of one. As always, specifications are subject to change without notice....

But if Browning did a black and gold Mk IV you that would have been sharp! With a frequency counter would have been nice also no clock because when your talking with friends what does time matter. I always wondered what a black and gold Mk IV would look like myself. Its to bad Browning didn't think ahead a little before the Cobra 2000 came out. That radio changed everything in the world of cb radio I have to say.

The Browning Mk III is neat but the brown does look better. But the front face plates the lettering is top shelf very nice job.

It seems there are a few Decal Suppliers that are catering to Radio... This Store must have Purchased " Deb's Decals " Business, as they had Made the D201 / D201A Faceplate Decal a few Years ago, when they were still in Business... www.gammaraygraphics.com/base-radios.htmlI imagine they would work with anyone wishing to further Personalize their Radio ? I believe a Fellow here once provided a Photo of his " Black " Tram d201 / D201A which I had liked... Years ago when I Restored and Upgraded a Heathkit SB 220 Amplifier, I went " Black " using one of these , versus a Decal... www.ebay.com/itm/Heathkit-SB-220-Black-Panels-/171744414047?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fcc3c95fAt one Time, a Manufacturer offered Browning MK III Gold Covers... I forgot WHO was said to have Made them, BUT It was not Browning Labs Inc... www.ebay.com/itm/BROWNING-GOLDEN-EAGLE-MARK-III-WITH-GOLD-CASES-/131393970209?nma=true&si=a35t97OWVTxe7QYRrOH7SSsFczc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557From Browning Labs Inc... Gold Mark III Covers browninglabsinc.com/myths_facts_fallacies.htmI believe at one Time here, there was a Fellow who Made D201 / D201A Wooden End Panels, that also offered them on EBay.com , but No Longer... I am looking for a " Certain Look ", when I will Attempt to Construct Wooden End Panels for the 2 Tram D201A's here... 1 DOES NOT Have any Wooden End Panels, as the Fellow I got it from, for Parts, wanted them... I did not really Want Them, at that Time so He gave me a further Discount by keeping them... I want this " Look " ... www.deanguitars.com/query?upc=819998175252I will " Know " the Look I want, WHEN I SEE IT... It's ALL about the GRAIN... How it Appeals to Me... My Guitar is " Similar " in Grain Pattern, but is Done in a ' Trans-Brazilian " Finish, NOT Purple... I have been spending some Time here, Watching How-To Videos... www.oakwoodveneer.com/video.htmlI am NOT a Cabinet Maker / Wood Worker.... BUT, I " dis-like " the Appearance of the " End Grain " of a " Solid " Piece of Wood, when Finished...

I always wondered what a black and gold Mk IV would look like myself. Its to bad Browning didn't think ahead a little before the Cobra 2000 came out. That radio changed everything in the world of cb radio I have to say. It's interesting to ponder what a modern Tram or Browning radio might look like, and what features it might have, if those companies had not gone belly up when they did. Knowing that a major reason why they didn't last had to do with the cost of manufacture of tube-type radios with a lot of wiring and other labor intensive operations, versus outsourcing printed circuit solid state radios. Tram had pretty much succumbed to that trend with their last offering, the D300. And with that, they became simply another manufacturer who slapped their name on a Uniden made chassis, and by doing so, lost any uniqueness that made Tram what it once was. It would have been tough to remain unique, American made, and cost competitive at the same time. CPI tried it, and their products were pricey as well, and as a result, not all that popular. But they did have a niche following of operators who wanted a notch above the common imported radios. So maybe Browning or Tram could have survived if they marketed their products a bit differently. It's hard to say for sure, but fun to speculate.....

Well Browning and Tram are kinda like Lincoln and Cadillac was the world standard in luxury. But fell stuck in time not inventive as far seeing the future of cars ahead. Then the Japeneese car makers came and redefine what a car maker should be in luxury. Now they seem to be getting there game back. Kinda like Cobra and Browning,Tram did back in the day. Just we don't have those radio manufacture's anymore sad.

Here is an Image of what has been said to be a " Prototype " Tram never Mass-Produced.... I am Glad they did not choose this Design www.bing.com/images/search?q=tram+d201&FORM=HDRSC2#view=detail&id=CB8A3DAA0779BD7CAAC519D60CF71C27545F6F6E&selectedIndex=107True, it would be Interesting to see what a Modern Tram would look like, if they had Survived... I had Heard Rumors before of the Original Owners of Browning and Tram were once Partners... It was said they Parted Ways due to One choosing to No Longer make, 2-Piece Radios... Hence, Tram was Born... Of course, the Original Tram D201 with VOX was Made in New Hampshire USA... D201 / D201A Radios which came Later were Assembled in Mexico... Cheap Labor in an Attempt to Compete with the Oriental Countries... I guess, it wasn't Cheap Enough for Tram to remain Competitive ... Yes, Uniden.... Flooding the Market, I suppose... Building Radios for MANY , like Cobra ? Dynascan... Plastic Radios... Like the Cobra 2000... Personally, I would NEVER Own one... In My Mind, My Tram D201A simply blows-away any Cobra 2000... I've read many Sad-Stories of those who HAD a Tram D201 / D201A and had been Fooled into buying a Cobra 2000, to then WISH they never Parted with the Tram... Yes, I am Bias Towards a Tram D201A, because I have owned 1 since 1978 that I bought New in the Box... Tram built so much more INTO the Radio that one could easily GET OUT OF, without Adding any Parts to it... There was a Fellow around here that ran a DAK MK X, that had Vacuum Tube Finals whose Audio appealed to Me... I know little about DAK in General... Just though it, Sounded Good... Who knows... Maybe a Modern Tram would look similar to this ? www.rigpix.com/tentec/pegasus550.htmThat's my, Most Modern.... Radio ? NO.... I don't Use it Much..... I don't like it... Yes, Proudly Made in the USA... ?

I had Purchased a Black Heathkit Reproduction Faceplate from Martin, a few Years ago, for $50.00 Shipped... He seems to Come and Go with these, as more than Once, he has Announced he would No Longer provide them... Months later, He was once again selling them... He also had Heathkit SB 200 Faceplates at one Time too... People have gone with " Overlays " on the SB 220... A Fellow in another Group put 1 of these Black Overlays on His Green SB 220 and commented it was NOT an Easy Task... Possibly related to the " Textured " Finish of the Heathkit Faceplate... ? ( I would have cautiouly Sanded the Textured Finish down to a Flat Surface before Applying the Decal ) I did not Ask where he Purchased the Overlay... I had referred him to Martin, although Martin was Not Advertising them at that Time, I still provided an Email Address and told the Fellow to Contact Him.... Low and Behold, a Couple of Months later, the Reproduction Aluminum Faceplates are once again, Available... Also available on EBay.com as I had Linked to Previously... Here is a possible Source for the SB 220 Overlay Decals... The Fellow also started Selling " Capacitor Kits " for some of the HAM Boat Anchors... www.hayseedhamfest.com/overlays_260941500.htmlPossibly Another Source for Heathkit Overlays www.k5sog.com/heathkit-faceplate-overlays.htmlQuite possibly, the Overlay / Decal Vendor I linked to Previously also has SB 220 Overlays ? That Vendor does have the Tram D201 / D201A Overlay / Decal... Any Color Background.... Any Color Lettering or Graphics.... Even your Own Design, or Add to an existing Design the Website States... I gathered this Photo on the Internet for an Example of Equipment Personalization... The Fellow apparently Worked with an Overlay / Decal Vendor, for His, One-of-a-kind.... www.bing.com/images/search?q=Heathkit+SB-200&view=detailv2&&&id=23935E69E9ECEAFEAD1064ADF7EE7B5172BE1FE9&selectedIndex=74&ccid=lvchWZML&simid=608051289553701656&thid=HN.608051289553701656&ajaxhist=0I really do not Like a Decal... Seems too easy to Scratch it... Seems even Gentle Dusting / Cleaning might Damage it... Often, with the Decals, the Supplier also Advertises the ability to Apply another Clear Layer over the Printed Lettering or Graphics that were Printed on the Vinyl Overlay, to Protect the Graphics at an Additional Cost... For the Purists.... One can simply, Leave it Alone...

Its kinda looks like someone found it under a bench somewhere and said let's restore it with some nice gold trim, wow now its a a limited edition radio. I think for me to sell that radio I would have to make up stuff, ruff being one of them. Great radio for blind people. I went blind just looking at it myself.

I have see his work before he does a good job, I'm like you not crazy about the white meters or the blue lights. But the Cobra 2000 was a game changer when it came out in 1978. It would be nice you could buy the case parts and knobs new again to complete a restoration.
