Pretty lively bunch on the live feed tonight. Bagger's radio was EXTREMELY loud and crisp. No skip tonight....too bad, kept wanting to pick up a mic.. ;D. Would be great to have some kind of VOIP setup for us out here in the plains..No 11 meter settings on ECHOLINK It was good to hear a Browning in there too...

My radios will always sound louder than everyone elses simply because I am the strongest signal to my own audio server. I have an RF relay switch that shunts the monitor radio to ground when I key up, but I still give it a full scale signal. One of the radios I was using: Attachments:

I had my Kenwood TS 480HX set up for remote control via internet. Hy-Tower was regularly checking in via Kenwood. I think he is going through withdraw.

Maybe.... I'd really like to find on in good shape, too. I've looked at a few and some people just don't take care of their equipment. Sad.

Well, the January 11th edition of Classic Radio Roundup went off fairly normally. The usual local crowd was in attendence. I am in the process of reviving and restoring a rather ill Cobra 2000, which was restored just enough to use last night. Still have a lot of work to do to it though. But it's a work in process. It's hard for me to think of a Cobra 2000 as a "Classic", but that model radio is 30 years old now so...... Some nice sounding Tram Titans, Brownings, and a Regency Imperial were also in attendence......

There was some sporadic E skip running last night during the CRR. I could not hear Pennsylvanian from South Carolina, but I did hear Fixr in Indiana call a few times.

Only the lonely sound of back ground hiss in South Carolina could be heard during the C.R.R last night. Yesterday evening I was near the radio as 8 PM EST rolled around. The F layer skip was slowly dieing out. I could hear the West Coast, Hawaii, and several stations in Australia and New Zealand on 38 LSB, but when I switched over to channel 13 and my Lazy H facing Pennsylvanian it was dead quiet. Oh well. I will be glad to see the approaching Summer Sporadic E skip season kick in. Sometimes it starts as early as April and sometimes it waits until mid May.

Night Ranger Yea, at 6:00 the skip was still running, but by 8:00, it was dead quiet. So the only long distance check-in was Pete, via his laptop from the beach in Key West.........

Don't forget to tune in tonight for Classic Radio Roundup. Over four years running and getting even more popular. Tonight, I will be running an SBE Trinidad for the first hour, and whatever I decide for hour 2.

Tonight's roundup was fun...Was able to check in with 441's "Network Radio" I ran a Pierce-Simpson Tiger 23c for most of it...I had forgotten how nice that rig sounds and works. My Audio feed to the computer tonight was courtesy of an SBE Console II. Heard FIXR over the roundup audio feed as well as locally on the Tram...Good strong signal for a little bit until conditions changed..

That 135 sounded great too..An nteresting subject about serial numbers came up last night regarding a certain tube in Tram Titans determained by a break in the serial numbers..Wasn't there a similar situation with the Cobra 135 and the early/late serial numbers determains which Model 90 Siltronix VFO could be used? Interesting how changes are made during production runs because of parts availability, quality etc...

Over two hours of Barker & Williamson / Hallicrafters, Heavy metal radio. Nothing else I have compairs. BIG audio and power with exceptional ears.
Ps; I need to find a system of rotation or the other radios are gonna collect some dust.

Tonight's CRR radio of choice is back to the SBE side of things...A very rare 40 channel Cortez...some strange SBE trivia: after only a few months of production, they changed it's name to "Aspen", where it remained until SBE started using Uniden chassis units under the "Land Command" trademark. The Cortez/Aspen chassis was amongst the last of the "pure" SBE built radios to leave the factory before the switch to outside sourced units. (The knobs are all metal with set screws!) This radio has an exceptional recieve and a ton and a half of audio on transmit.

I guess there's no hard fast rule that says that it has to, but most of the radios that started out as 23 channel units and transitioned over to equivalent 40's looked a lot alike except for the obvious channel selector differences. I never liked the "Land Command" series. IMHO, they weren't "true" SBE's. Some of them were a little strange circuit-wise, and not all of them were typical Uniden-made radios.....

The 11/07, "Post Election" episode of CRR was brought to you by the letter "T", as in "Trinidad" and "Tram". There were 3 SBE Trinidads in attendence, and I was running a Tram D201. I assume Dr. Hammer had a Tram running as well, but I didn't get the model. Now that the clocks have been set back an hour, the skip dies off sooner and conditions were quiet for the most part. We did make a momentary contact with Green Dog who was down in Cape May New Jersey, a nearly 100 mile trip from me. Heard him calling a couple of times as conditions faded in and out. It was also good to see everyone back at full strength after the nasty storm from the week prior.

Yes, I was running a Tram as well...I hooked up my Titan II with a Turner 350C hand mike. Hadn't had it fired up since I put the D201 in-line. Was nice to hear all the Trinidads, one of my favorite SBE's. They sounded great! Over-all, a fun round-up!

Hellooooo Skeeter and welcome! Sparky 775 waivin'
Those Trinidads do sound good. I'll have to keep my eye to the curb for one.
I was runnin' that little Metrotek Pacer II thru the D&A Raider. Since it's not the cleanest rig, I'm gonna put a 4 pin mic jack on the front and an external speaker jack out the back. The Metrotek sounds way better thru the 4 pill for some reason. Maybe the tubes are gettin' weak in the Raider.

Pitty. Night Ranger Well yea, you've got the whole curvature of the earth thing to deal with. You are just too far away for a direct shot no matter how much antenna gain you have. You'd probably have to raise the antenna up 5000 or more feet to make it work. Maybe a ballon hoisted dipole? ;-) Otherwise, you're going to have to depend on mother nature and the E-Layer, and you already have a great antenna to work that.......

The one thing that has stopped me from building a higher gain antenna facing Pennsylvania is I use that same Lazy H to talk to Europe. If I narrow the lobes to get more gain I will cut out Europe. That means I'd have to build a fourth switchable antenna just to talk to Europe. I do have the space for that though. : ) Night Ranger

Night Ranger, we definitely heard you in PA last evening around 7:30-8 PM and did so for about 15-20 minutes. I'll let the guys know you were calling for them.
I was pleasantly surprised you heard me on my "slant-faced" Sears RoadTalker 40 on Ch 13 AM.
