I was told that they had trouble with the solid state 2N2876 final in the Titan III and went back to a 6GM5 tube final in the Titan IV. Everything else is almost the same. Alan My old Titan 3 was solid state. It was a pretty decent radio, but I enjoyed my old Titan 2 a lot more( mistake trading it for the Titan 3)...no experiance here with a Titan 4..

Hey Dave...
I talked to a guy that goes by Iceman up there in Churchtown this morning, he said you did some work on his Mark III. Seems like a real nice guy, and hopefully he will be joining us here on the forum. Also talked to my old buddy Bob up there, I like hearing those guys talk up there on 31 early in the morning!

Hey Scott, I talk to Bob occassionally. he is a good guy, and I have talked to him on 31, and he comes up to 36 USB to join me (Ot8412), Spends2much (OT044) & Ronin (OT235) sometimes. Hey, listen for those Old Timer (oscar tango) calls on the band! Spitfire & I were just talking to Bob the other morning on 36 USB as well, and asked him to stop in on the Classic Radio Roundup with one of his classics, and one of his many microphones . He said he would...if he can stay awake for it ;D

That must be Larry. Yea, he (the real Iceman) had some problems in his MKIII receiver. The rectifier was blown, some caps were bad and it needed the tuner dial re-calibrated. While I was at it, I tuned the transmitter as well. A nice rig...... I heard he had an accident, (fell off of a scaffold or something) a little while back. I hope he's feeling better.

Next week, I'll probably be back on the Robyn T-123B. Gotta keep those caps from drying out. Just a reminder to tune in the Classic Radio Roundup tonight at 8:00 EST. I'll most likely be running my Hy-Gain 623 this time around. Spitfire said something about running his CPI-2000. We'll see who checks-in this week, and hopefully things won't get out of hand this time. Hopefully I finally have the 5 connection limit on my streaming audio server worked out.

I think that I heard two watt Willy mentioned in an earlier post. On Monday night the skip was running so I tuned to channel 21 and heard him in there.

Two-Watt runs a good bit of power. He might even show up during the round-up tonight. He has a couple of Tram D201's and a Tram Titan he might fire up.....

Hi, 441 Spitfire! I just talked to you on the Tram into a JB-12, into Grumpy's old 12 tube Phantom. The Antenna is a 4 element Jogunn vertical. I just took this pic. I'm using a CPI pre-amp. The Noise blanker on this Tram works!

I'm not running much in the way of power, only about 30 watts or so. Pete has a bit more ~200 watts. I'm further away, but on better ground, so it's probably a push. I talked to Tim again, and he finally acknowleged that the Titan he has is probably a IIa. Better yet, I'm probably going to pick it up from him..........

And today during the Morning After Roundup Wrap-up... There were quite a few check-in's and some less than popular old radios heard. Paul was conspicuously missing (and missed!). But on the good side, Crazy Bob was booming in with an S4 signal from South Jersey on his Vintage Tram D201. I was also able to host more than 5 connections to the audio server. The role call for last night was: (a not so crazy) Bob with a Hammerlund 223 Brian with a Commanche Warrior. Al with a SBE Console V Art with a Robyn T-123 Tim with his Tram Titan 4 Dave, Joe, Crazy Bob with Tram D201's Pete with his CPI-2000 Myself running a Hy-Gain 623. Thanks everyone for checking in. Hopefully next week gets even more old timers (both radio and operator) out there on the channel.

Yeah, I couldn't get on the air this week because my wife & I are having an addition put on our house (which will house my new shack ;D ) , but due to the construction, required me to remove my old shack until work is complete. Hoping I will be back on the air soon.

I was all set up to listen and try to make contact the other night. But... about a half hour before it started I sat down on my recliner here in the radio room with my 6 month old Lab puppy, next thing I knew it was 11:55pm

Hopefully the puppy didn't leave you a present You missed a good roundup. Things were civil and there were a lot of check-ins. Even Crazy Bob was smokin' up our way. But I guess we don't have enough to make it back......... But there's always next week.

I've always had a soft spot for Trams too. Just never a big enough bank account . They're finally old enough, that I can afford them. Those Titans and D-201's always sounded full and loud back in the day. Now that I have a Browning MKIII, I plan on doing a head to head battle of the top guns of classic radios and pit the Browning against the D201 and see which one is better overall. I know the Browning/Tram rivalry is similar to the Ford/Chevy rivalry, with much of that loyalty based on personal preference rather than honest performance. Hopefully I'll be able to do an objective review......

slightly off topic... Since my shack is temporarily offline, I came up with a quick-n-dirty way to get on 2 meters to stay in touch with my local crew. I pulled out my 30+ year old FDK Multi 2000 2 meter all mode radio ;D 2 watts on low/10 watts on high, internal power supply, repeater shift-no PL tone, receive out the ying yang Since I don't do repeaters (except for a well known local 6m/220 linked machine of questionable repute ), the thing works well for me on simplex as a temp station. Plug it into house current, connect the coax, use it, and tear it down-out of harm's way- at the end of the night. If using old ham gear catches on, we could do a Classic Ham Radio Roundup sometime.

Classic ham radio roundup? Isn't that what the Saturday morning AM 6 meter net is all about? ;D Funny, I'm far less enthused about classic ham radios. Probably because I didn't get into ham radio until the 80s, and I'm still running 20 year old radios there . Maybe if I had been a ham when I was a kid, it might have the same appeal as classic CB radios do.

Well, you're correct Dave, but my Lafayette HA-460 6m AM rig went offline when the ceramic insulator that the air variable loading capacitor is riveted to, crumbled from previous damage and age. Can't tune up the radio now, so I will have to dismantle the front panel, get the variable capacitor out, and see if Gene can make something out of delrin. In the meantime, I have assembled my classic ham radio station, and it awaits it's new shack Yaesu FT-101ZD, matching speaker, VFO & tuner, FT-225RD 2 meter all mode & FT-625RD 6 meter all mode. Not shown is the Yaesu FL-2100B twin 572B amplifier ;D Now tell me that wouldn't make you want to play classic ham radio roundup?

A dedicated group of classic CB radio enthusiasts from the Southeastern Pennsylvania area have set aside Wednesday nights from 8:00 to 10:00 Eastern Time, on Channel 13 for "Classic Radio Roundup", where we take the various pieces of our vintage 60's and 70's radio collections out for a spin. . Well, it's that time again as we anxiously approach another Wednesday night Classic Radio Roundup. Tonight, I plan on dusting off my original (I got it in 1974) Lafayette Comstat 25 and letting it play. Spitfire is leaning toward running a Browning Eagle MK IV, and hopefully Paul will throw together something to join in the fray this time.
