My 15 minutes of fame..... The alternate gate for 3/09, showing just how "shattered" Pete was sounding with that Turner Sidekick mic on the Midland.

My 15 minutes of fame..... The alternate gate for 3/09, showing just how "shattered" Pete was sounding with that Turner Sidekick mic on the Midland. Kinda sounded not so good, it could have been more better lol. I know Pete was determined to stay on that radio all night. It's all good Pete! And yes I ran a Midland mobile last night will post pic it's not the prettiest thing on the block but it works. And thanks to the Delaware county 10-5 System I was able to make the gate last night!

Many thanks for the gate. It was very crowded on CRR. Tuff to get in there last night. Click on pic to enlarge. I noticed that issue if I attach a file of a photo instead of copying a link to a photo hosting site:

Spitfire, what were you using as a "monitor" to not hear the distorted output. This was not the first time I've heard ya with a similar output issue. It could be related to our close proximity but others besides both Bagger and I heard it this time. Just curious and trying to help out if I can

Always liked the SBE radios, never did own one though. I've always liked the original SBE designs. Not a big fan of the Land Command series though. I got my first SBE radio (Cortez) in 1975, and I'm now the proud owner of a Trinidad and a Console II.

You guys got it going on down there. I like listening to the videos. Sounds like the CRR is getting really big and more and more people are joining in. Conditions have not been that great here for me to make the 200 mile trip down to ya. Keep the videos coming,

Conditions have not been that great here for me to make the 200 mile trip down to ya. Keep the videos coming, When it comes to radio, there is little that is "impossible", since you never know what sort of freak conditions could occur in the atmosphere that could cause a very short skip and allow you to be heard down in this neck of the woods. On the other hand, if you're on top of a 2500' mountain, with enough power, you MIGHT be able to make a direct shot. But that's very unlikely. But it would be cool if it happened.....

Yes we need more freak conditions, lucky guess on my elevation, Iam 2,300 ft up on top of a mt. Breaking ground for my 40' tower when this cold snap gets the heck out of here. POWER !!

I guess we're not the only ones who quick-key...... Guess you'll have to go to the pump house.... It's tough getting in between locals quick keying on SSB. Strong local signals will close down the sensitivity becasue of the slow acting AGC, and it'll take 2 or 3 seconds to recover. But by then, another local will have keyed again.

Yeah if you listen to the gate it was real tight when Pete was trying to jump in between us. Yes you right all them guys are close and drown out distant stations. I did hear someone out in the distance but I think it was what Pete had on his end AM stations.

I am finding out it is tuff running Classic radios on SSB. On your receiver side it's hand on knob constantly adjusting! But Spitfire's Regency seemed right on throughout the gate. I heard Pete say most 23ch radios have open clarifiers, I wish my Hygain 8 23ch did because I would run that for sure. But it is way off.

Vintage solid state 23 channel SSB radios were usually rock solid on frequency (unless they were mobile in rapidly changing temperatures). I never used to have drift issues (unless I was following someone else who was drifting), with either my Midland 13-885 or my Tram XL5 back in the day. Most of the original 40 channel radios were also fairly stable as well. It's the newer Chinese-made export stuff that has the problem with drift. That or hacked up radios where people tried to get insane range out of their clarifiers.

This week's (4/20) CRR videogate. It's only 30 minutes long, as I thought Pete would take it up once he got on, but that didn't happen. Oh well....... Here's the first 30 minutes from my Browning Mark III:
