thank you on the compliments on the radio, it always didnt look that way. Someone long ago put that ribbon tape like you see on the crystal in the pic, for a month I carefully peeled all the stuff off and was suprised how well it looked. The mic is on a mic plug, its the most complete spacestation I have ever seen, I saw that one on ebay and it did look rough. There might only be less the a 100 left in existence probaly less then that I was lucky mine literally fell into my lap but I paid $250 for it.

here is a pic of most of the browning equipment availible, you can see that my 23 S-9 has the same pointer on it as yours does. Also the "ping" started as a mistake in the R-27 S-23 models from the factory and was corrected, but when service techs from all over the country started requesting that radio come that way. Browning provided the info on how to do it. Browning never manufactured radios that way intentally. It was just a mod Attachments:

using a amplified mic on the mark 2 wont hurt it I use a amplified mic on all of my brownings. When it comes time to choose a mic its not always match it to the radio but rather it has to do with the tone of your voice. Turners, Astatics, or any other mics out there have a differant sound to it. I would have to say a amplified D-104 is the best choice in my personal opinion gives those radio's some punch so I hope that answered your question

well what has wrecked the quality is not were its made but cheap labor. I mean if someone wanted to make a high quality USA made cb radio the price would probaly close to $1000-2000 plus

good to hear that drc there will always be a mix of the good, the bad, & the ugly. We have some real winners out here in chicago ones that your not really mad there out there talking but that they are breathing our precious oxygen. But with that to we have more good people than bad the cb radio always goes in cycles it get good for awhile then it stinks. It has been doing that for years, so what I got to say to everyone on this thread "JUST KEEP YOUR RADIO'S" it will come back to being good.
