There is a great article in POP COMM<POPULAR COMMUNICATIONS> JUNE issue reference MURS.. VHF CHANNELS fm only , Around here the few who are on use a beam<2 mtrs> at 25 feet 30 miles, you can use a MURS RADIO<VERY FEW AVAILABLE> or buy a used 2 mtr radio and expand it..no licese needed for MURS ,other part 2 mtrs you need a license .
I have read fellows using it around the great lakes talking from CLEVELAND to CHICAGO, on chnl 1.. DOCTOR

I think it shows big stick lll. I will look further though. Now I have a problem with it. It acts like it is grounded somewhere, unless on the coax connector I have to unscrew the outer casing of the pl250 and just leave the center conductor in it works good but if the connector is screwed in..nothing. I thought it was the coax at first so I disconnected and put it on another antenna, works great. so coax is good. hopefully it isn't inside the antenna..any suggestions cb brown DOCTOR/795

I was reading the new issue of MT, and one article described the ccrane new am radio antenna, some device sits on top of radio , then the cable leads into the preamp which is variable with the variation knob, and then the cable goes to the antenna which sits on the windowsill, but the price was heavy $99, guess I will dream about it. There seems to be a lot on this radio on the internet but not the problems you are describing I found some mods for it also cbworldinformer.com/cb_world_970201.htmbut no mention of the problem in cb tricks although it shows the radio schematic I believe. Not much help though. DOCTOR/795

I had one of those when I was a kid<a few years ago plus 50>, It must of been 4 watts because at that time I did not acquire knowledge to tune it up, I remember using a long wire antenna<swr must have been out of sight>, and I talked to Shelby, Ohio about 18 miles from my parents home, and they could barely read me, but as a kid I was communicating. If I remember you had to get a license but had to be 18, so I made up a call<I was learning>.

I would say they wont bother you rf wise to far away on the frequecies, now if you would point your antenna toward the cell tower it could block a bit of the receive signal, if your to close to it, but in most cases no problems..

I ran across a neat communications program.. RAILROAD TELEGRAPH... NO LICENSE NEEDED home.comcast.net/~morsekob/Just download the program<toward the bottom> Set up NAME<FIST ONLY>, INITIALS, STATE Read instructions...try it out on chnl 1, and when accomplished go to chnl 11...activity. I have worked USA, Canada, Europe, New Zealand,, Use the keyboard, and it will copy what the other chap sends to you, although you will hear the click/clack of old time American Telegraph. On the weekends sometimes you will find Railroad Museums on. Also activity in the evenings. A good place for fun, even your kids could operate it or a scout program , world wide. DOCTOR/795
