Great post/catalogue. I have looked at part of it. Seems the radios are high in price then, bet they made the money for a year or two or more. The first picture sure was loaded with gear. DOCTOR/795

I had one of those firesticks antenna the 5 foot model, never had problems with it. I have a adaptor..screw the firestick or hamsticks into each end forming a dipole, picked up another firestick and put the antenna at 30 feet, flat swr with the tuner, and very directional, works good, got into CANADA on 11 meters easily. Loaded it up on 10 meters good results. Without the antenna tuner swr 1.5, not bad. Going to try it vertical next, found a place who sells the adaptor for vertical configuration, k1cra store. Will report results later this week. DOCTOR/795

I was going to say, this guy has a bank roll with that big tower, especially to erect it. A good friend I use to talk to <paratrooper>, had a 80 foot tower a commercial type he had to have a crane take it down and deliver it to his place, and a wrecker truck to pull it up, $1500 to do that. Sadly his antennas got struck by nature a few times and never worked properly again, so he reverted to his vertical. He did not want to invest anymore money. The tower still stands with the antenna but he passed last FALL<cancer/agent orange>. DOCTOR/795

Great job and I always find it fun to attempt to restore a older cb radio, although parts are becoming more and more hard to find.
I like to go to hamfests and find the old 23 channel units for a few bucks each, they still have life in them the old midlands etc., but the old base units is where the price tag arises sometimes to much.
Any how it looks great.

I just saw an ad on this antenna, and on the last line it says: ILLEGAL FOR CB/11 METERS. I could not believe it, so looked up another ad on it same thing, who are they kidding. DOCTOR/795
SPT-500 is specifically designed to accept AM-FM-SSB-DSB signals with low loss. Handles 1.5 killowatts. This antenna is illegal for 11 Meters use.

If it has eratic meter movement, it could be dust has gathered on the controls and circuit board. I see where you live, if there is an electronic shop near you, you will want to get a can of contact cleaner, this involves taking the radio out of the cabinet and spraying all controls, and the circuit board, or if you are not sure of taking it apart, remove the plastic knobs on each control and spray the shaft after all has been sprayed turn the set on, and turn each control to see if it comes alive or the meter for example is less erratic, again spray. You can pick up the contact cleaner at a wally world. and sometimes at a RADIO SHACK, but DO NOT use anything but the contact cleaner.... If you have no place to get it, post that and I will get an address where you can but the postage is high... DOCTOR

Well if I remember right a microphone has to be plugged for the receive to work, but if the swr is OK you must have the microphone in, try plugging in a separate speaker on the extra spkr plug, a relay might be stuck a few times in/out should get it to work<hopefully> DOCTOR

RS is about useless any more, especially the clerk, only thing they want to sell you is a cellular phone, expect more RS to close this year, if they stuck with the parts, a line of cb and the 10 and 2 meter radios they would make it, but now I rather doubt it. DOCTOR

The 2 meter bunch is on in LOUISVILLE, KY but mostly to and from work then about gone.
I put a cb rig in the car the other day, made a few contacts going to town<12 miles> more than I have made on 2 meters for ages.. CB comes in handy on the interstate

I never heard anyone on GMRS, I have a license what for I do not know, but the only time I ever talked to anyone was around INDIANAPOLIS REACT had a repeater but if you were not from around there you had to send an email to them to be allowed on it, it was good though it covered INDI and all the way to COLUMBUS INDIANA maybe 40 miles. They have one in LOUISVILLE, but same REACT but the antenna is at the guys house and limited range. I could not reach it at 27 miles NORTH , but could reach one at 20 miles on the ham band near GMRS.band. I do not mess with it anymore, do not like to listen to noise and dead air. DOCTOR ;D
